Finishing the group stage of Leagues Cup 2023 with a 1-1-0 record
Portland Timbers finished Leagues Cup 2023 with a 1-1-0 record, ensuring a top-two finish in their three-team West 1 Group, advancing them to the Round of 32. This weekend and early next week will mark the end of the Leagues Cup group stage, which consists of 29 MLS teams and 18 Liga MX teams.
The Portland team has earned three points through two games, but their next opponent has yet to be determined. The final group position will be determined by the result of Tigres UANL’s match against the San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday evening (8pm PT, MLS Season Pass on Apple TV).

Portland finishes first in West 1 if:
Due to Club León already clinching first in West 3, the Timbers would play the West 3 runner-up – either Vancouver Whitecaps FC or LA Galaxy.
On Sunday, July 30, the Galaxy and Whitecaps played for second place in the group.
Whitecaps finish second in Group West 3 after winning 2-1 over Galaxy.
Portland finishes second in West 1 if:
In the West 2 Group, the Timbers would play the winner of C.F. Monterrey, Real Salt Lake and Seattle Sounders FC. At the moment, Monterrey leads the group by goal differential.
On Sunday, July 30, Monterrey played Seattle.
Monterrey won the West 2 Group, 4-2, over Seattle.
After the Round of 32, 16 single-elimination games will be played in each region (West, East, North, and South) leading to the Leagues Cup Final on Saturday, Aug. 19.
After a plane problem, LA Galaxy’s Leagues Cup match against Club León has been rescheduled for Wednesday
Due to mechanical problems with Club León’s charter aircraft, the LA Galaxy’s League Cup match with the Mexican club has been moved to Wednesday night.
León’s preparations for the match were “significantly impacted” by the unspecified plane issue, the Leagues Cup announced on Monday night.
MLS and Liga MX teams meet Tuesday night in the Leagues Cup, a summer tournament featuring every team in Major League Soccer and Liga MX.
The Galaxy confirmed that all ticketholders can attend the match on Wednesday.
